  • Ensure the water tank is full
  • * For the Pro model, scroll through the functions until you get to the ‘CLEAN CYCLE’ option. Press the ‘SELECT’ button and the cleaning cycle will run itself *
  • * To activate the cleaning cycle on the Express model, press and hold the one cup and two cup buttons then press the power button and hold for 3 seconds. The ‘clean me’ button should start to flash and the 5 minute cleaning cycle will start *
  • Remember to place a container under the group handle as about 300ml of water is rinsed through during the process
  • Check the cleaning tablet has fully dissolved, rinse the group handle and cleaning disc thoroughly
  • Replace onto the machine without any cleaning solution and run 5 blank shots to rinse the group head of the chemicals. This is called ‘backflushing’ and can be done on its own on a more frequent basis. This stops residual oils and grounds from building up.

  • Once you’ve made your drink and removed the coffee puck from the handle, separate the basket and rinse both parts under hot water to remove any oil or leftover grounds.
  • Dry with a microfibre towel and clip back together
  • In addition to the rinsing, it is good practice to separate the basket from the handle and soak it for a few hours or overnight. (This could be done at the same time as the cleaning cycle) Using hot water, dissolve a cleaning tablet into the milk jug and stand the handle and basket in it upside down. (This also descales your jug at the same time)
  • Rinse thoroughly under hot water to remove all traces of chemical

How and why to clean the steam arm on a Sage?

Imagine walking into a coffee shop and seeing a Barista using a steam arm caked in dried milk, you’d probably walk out.

This poses a cross-contamination risk as well as a health and hygiene problem, don’t fall into this bad habit at home.

Wipe and purge the steam arm before use and again once finished steaming— removing all traces of milk. The ‘purge’ step is perhaps the most important, it clears any milk   lurking in the wand and stops it from syphoning back up into the pipework of the machine.

We recommend our Chicopee Coffee Towels, they’re really good quality and last a long time when used and rinsed correctly.

Drip Tray

Our advice is to not wait until your ‘empty me’ light starts to flash.

By this point, carrying the tray over to the sink without spilling any coffee-water on the floor starts to feel like an extreme sport.

Simply remove the tray, rinse with hot soapy water and wipe with a damp cloth. Note: The parts on the machine aren’t dishwasher safe.

How and why to clean the water filter on a Sage?

If you live in a hard-water area (Here’s a really handy website to check) limescale is the biggest enemy of any coffee machine.

Therefore the water filter is perhaps the most important part of the maintenance of your Sage machine. Soak the filter for 10 minutes before inserting it in the holder.

Tip: Set a reminder on your phone or mark on a calendar when the filter is due to be changed.
