If you’re thinking ‘what exactly is an infuser teapot?’, keep reading…

What is an infuser teapot?

An infuser teapot involves the addition of a filter basket to a traditional pot, to allow easy brewing for fresh loose leaf.

The filter basket, also known as tea ball, maker or even egg, is made of a perforated material to allow even diffusing. The dry leaves are placed inside this basket to prevent them from getting into your cup.

This invention gained popularity in the early 19th century and has taken off since more and more of us enjoy the benefits of fresh loose leaf.

Here are our top tips for using this device…

How do I use a tea infuser teapot?

Using this device is much easier than you might think. After a few practices, the routine will become second nature and you’ll never look back on making the switch to fresh loose leaf. Here are the easy steps to follow:

  1. Rinse the pot out with hot water to remove any dust or dirt and to preheat the device (this is an optional step but helps to keep the drink hotter for longer).
  2. Remove the lid and scoop in the loose leaf (use a guide of one scoop per mug).
  3. Boil the kettle with fresh water.
  4. Once boiled, pour over the filter basket.
  5. Allow time for steeping. The time it takes will depend on what type of loose leaf your using e.g. black usually takes around 2 minutes whereas a herbal infusion may need up to 5 minutes.
  6. Once you’re happy that it has brewed, remove the filter basket (be careful it may be hot), pour and enjoy!

How does a teapot infuser work?

This device works by allowing the hot water to infuse with the leaves, creating a delicious cup of fresh hot tea.

Loose leaf has a fresher and higher quality taste than tea bags, and this is for a number of reasons. Firstly, fresh has much bigger unbroken leaves, which results in a better flavour. This is because they are dealt with in the harvesting/manufacturing process with more care, which allows the aromas and essential oils to remain intact.

Secondly, loose leaf has more room to infuse in a teapot. In a bag they are confined to a small space, which doesn’t always allow the proper infusion.

Tips for cleaning your teapot infuser…

To get the best flavour and to maintain the condition of your device, we recommend thoroughly washing this product after every use.

The La Cafetiere glass teapot is so easy to wash as the filter basket is removeable. Simply hand wash with hot soapy water for the best results.
