Coffee In India

The Producer: Allanasons Limited

The Allana family have more than 145 years of experience sourcing and exporting coffee from some of India’s finest estates. They process 20,000 tonnes of coffee per year on their processing plant in Hassan. They centralise a large majority of the coffee grown across India and sort it according to size, quality and process.

Allanasons have achieved many awards for their quality of coffee and tea exports every year since 1992. Their internal QC procedures at the coffee mill in Hassan ensures consistency across all grades of arabica- including the famed Monsooned Malabar.

Companies such as Allanasons work hard to maintain steady supply and consistent prices for farmers and workers alike. This helps to alleviate the risks that can come in difficult climatic years, and to ensure necessary equipment and practices exist to reduce the additional risk posed by animals (venomous snakes)

India Tiger Stripes: About The Coffee

This is a mixed varietal coffee, containing some of the common varietals found within the region: S795, Sln6, Sln9 and Cauvery- many of which have a Kent heritage. Most of these varietals have been developed by The Central Coffee Research Institute. Founded in 1925, the Institution has developed over 80 hectares of land to aid development and research in coffee growing.

Taste:

Tiger Stripes carries a clove bitterness and a subtly sweet hint of cocoa. We find full-fat milk compliments the spiced bitterness perfectly, resulting in a bold flavoured cup with a low acidity.

Coffee Processing In India

Coffee processing in India is commonly done with no fermentation to remove the mucilage, The cherry is picked, pulped and sorted straight away, drying on patios under the sun-unless weather or volume dictates the additional use of mechanical driers. This processing method yields a low acidity and a flavour that is well rounded and creates the familiar perceived strength that Indian coffee is so well known for.
