Coffee In El Salvador

The Apenacea Region

Despite its small size, El Salvador was once the fourth largest producer of coffee, known for producing high-quality specialty grade Arabica. With such a rich cultivation history, in recent years El Salvador has required less investment in additional training and equipment than many other coffee producing countries.

El Salvador has a very reliable wet-dry season spectrum. This allows for consistent growth in the wet season and cultivation and processing in the dry season. Finca Portezuelo is located near Juayúa in the Ilamatepec mountains. The arabica grown in this region is graded as ‘SHG’, meaning that coffee is ‘strictly’ grown at a minimum altitude of 1500masl. Coffee grown at higher altitudes can mature more slowly, which allows for the development of complex acidity and flavour characteristics.

El Salvador Finca La Portezuelo: About The Coffee

Fantastically sweet with a clean syrupy flavour. We find the rich orange oil notes in Finca Portezuelo are well suited to pour over methods. However, we have previously featured this coffee in our Home Espresso Bundle.  The caramelisation of the bean’s natural sugars during roasting develop into a rich, malty biscuit flavour when pulled as an espresso.

Whatever your chosen brew method, El Salvador produces a balanced cup with a complex, yet pleasant acidity.

The best coffee I have ever had!
Fantastic taste every time, without any of the sour or burnt flavours. I can’t speak highly enough of the coffee and the service.
I have ordered 6 x 1Kg bags of this over the last few months, 2 each order with a trial of another. Every time I try a different one I am really glad to get back to this.
