A traditional, harmonious blend that ticks all the boxes for a high quality, reliable espresso.
Created to balance body and clarity in an espresso, Velvet is one of our most popular coffees. The beautiful simplicity of this blend comes from its combination of two classics of the coffee world. Much of the blend is made up of an Indonesian bean which brings a rich body and mouthfeel to the espresso. This is paired with a Brazilian coffee which offers sweet vanilla and soft floral complexity. Together the taste and mouthfeel of the resulting espresso is reminiscent of Velvet: soft, strong and luxurious. Expect a rich syrupy sweetness like that of molasses, leading into a rich chocolatey sweetness, finishing up with a delicate, sweet and spice cinnamon bitterness.
Velvet might already be familiar as it is the staple espresso for many coffee shops across the North-West. This two-star 2020 Great Taste Award winner is one that will remain in your home coffee rotation.
Recipe
Velvet is a resilient blend to work with. This means that changing variables like grind size and brew time shouldn’t affect the flavour as much as some other beans. A typical 1:2 to 1:2.5 ratio of coffee into espresso out ratio will work perfectly. This ratio with a shot time of anywhere from 18 to 28 should result in a well-balanced coffee. For a full bodied, syrupy sweet but punchier brew you would want to err on the side of a longer extraction, pushing past 25 seconds.
For something lighter and fruitier you can make your grind a little coarser and allow for a slightly faster brew.
