What is Caffeine?

Caffeine is consumed by billions of people every single day, but what actually is it? According to Wikipedia it is ‘a central nervous system stimulant of the methylxanthine class’.

This means It stimulates the brain and nervous system, preventing tiredness and giving you that ‘boost’.

It is a natural stimulant as it is found in leaves and seeds such as tea and coffee.

What is Decaf Tea?

This can refer to a naturally caffeine free beverage, such as herbal tea, or where the caffeine has been extracted. There are three ways in which this can be done:

  • Using organic chemical solvents
  • Using carbon dioxide
  • The ‘water method’

Is Caffeine Bad for You?

Caffeine is will not damage your health, as long as you consume it in moderation. It also completely depends on the individual.

For example, while you are pregnant or if you suffer from anxiety, your caffeine intake should be a lot lower than the average person.

Here are some side effects if you are consuming more than you should:

  • Could have a negative effect on the quality of your sleep
  • Over time, if you drink too much, your body could build an intolerance to caffeine
  • It is mildly addictive, so some may become dependent on it

Caffeinated beverages also have numerous positive health benefits, but as mentioned previously, the key is moderation.

That is why our Decaffeinated English Breakfast Tea is the perfect solution when taking a break from Caffeine, with the full flavour that you are used to from a cup of tea, we can guarantee that it won’t disappoint.

How to Brew English Breakfast Tea

Firstly, and probably the most important part, choose a high quality tea. We only supply the highest quality products here at Adams & Russell, so we’ve got this first step covered.

Secondly, grab your favourite mug. If you are brewing for just one, then just one heaped teaspoon of the tea leaves is needed. If you are making more than one cup, our guide is one teaspoon for every 8oz (227g) of water. Brew in the teapot for around 3-5 minutes, and your delicious hot drink will be ready.

You decide whether you would like to add a splash of milk, but be careful as too much can take away the distinct flavour of the tea. You can sweeten with sugar, or why not try a drizzle of honey.
